Hedgecock Texas Bound
COLUMBUS, O., Dec. 5, 1951—One of the mainstays of the Victoria Athletics pitching staff last season, Jim Hedgecock, was traded today to Austin of the Class “B” Big Spring League for long-ball hitting Allen Lawrence.
In five seasons with Waco and Austin of the Big Springs League, Lawrence failed to hit .300 only once, missing by only three points a year ago. He batted in more than 100 runs each season except 1950.
Lawrence strikes out few times, whiffing only 11 times in 1947, 15 in 1948, 18 in 1949 and 28 in 1950.
He can play also play first base, shortstop or outfield.
