Another Negro Leaguer Joins Vancouver

Butts Fourth Negro To Sign With Caps
By CLANCY LORANGER [Vancouver Province, March 4]
Fourth Negro on Vancouver Capilanos’ baseball roster has been purchased from Indianapolis of the American (Negro) League, Cap general manager Bob Brown announced today.
The newcomer is Harry Butts, a 23-year-old left-handed pitcher. He’s the third Negro pitcher to be bought this winter, joining Eddie Locke and Paul Jones as battery mates for Negro catcher John Ritchey.
GOOD RECORD
Butts, 5 ft. 11 ins., and like Locke eligible as a “rookie” because he’s never played on organized pro ball, won 11 games and lost two in different leagues last summer. He had a 6-1 record with the Negro major league club before skipping to Venezuela, where he compiled a 5-1 record.
‘FLU BOB
Meanwhile Brown, who planned to leave Thursday for Seattle Rainiers’ spring camp which opened Monday at Palm Springs, may have to postpone his trip. Bob has picked up a touch of the flu.
