LEWISTON, [Victoria Colonist, Aug. 3]—Ben Lorino, aiming for a W.I.L. record for victories in one season, last night moved within eight of reaching Bob Snyder’s 1951 record-setting 27.
The Big Victoria southpaw inked No. 19 into the league records at Lewiston last night, holding the Broncs to six hits and easing his way to a 5-2 decision.
It was Lorino’s fifth straight triumph and his seventh in his last eight decisions. It was also his 18th complete game, the 60th of the year for the Victoria mound staff. For the Tyees, it was their 21st win in their last 26 games and left them still with their 13½-game lead but for the second straight night, they actually improved their position.
INDIANS HELP
Not only are they a gang nearer the end of the schedule but Spokane Indians again knocked off the Vancouver Capilanos, closest to the Tyees on the losing side. The Caps have lost 14 more games than Victoria and have played five less games. They are 10 games out. Vancouver lost two to Spokane by identical 5-4 scores.
The Tyees continue their road trip with a doubleheader against the Broncs today. Bill Bottler and Jehosie Heard are almost certain to get the pitching nominations from manager Cec Garriott.
It’s back home for the league leaders tomorrow with Yakima Bears here tomorrow. Tuesday and Wednesday and Wenatchee Chiefs moving in Thursday for five games in three days, including a Thursday doubleheader and two games Saturday. Tomorrow’s pitching selection will depend on today’s action but it is possible LeRoy Han, the Tyees’ latest acquisition, will open the home stand.
ABERNATHY STARS
Chuck Abernathy, hitting steadily since being returned to the active list, figured in two of Victoria’s three run-scoring innings. Singles by John Treece, Abernathy and Milt Martin gave the Tyees a 1-0 lead in the second. They went ahead 2-1 in the fifth when Lu Branham’s double sent in a run and won it in the sixth with three runs. Abernathy’s double was the big blow of the inning.
Bob Schulte came on in relief to stop the Victoria attack but the Broncs could only manage a run in their half of the sixth to reduce the margin.

SPOKANE, Aug. 3—Saturday was Repetition Day for the Spokane Indians. They got nine hits in both games of a doubleheader over the Vancouver Capilanos. And they won both games by a 5-4 score.
Ed Bouchee was the hitting star of the ten-inning opener, with a repetitive three singles to score three times. Both teams had nine hits.
Bobby Roberts got the win in relief. Bob Snyder lost and the game broke a spell of nine straight wins which he had amassed over the Indians over a two-year span.
And, in keeping with the repetitive theme, Roberts won the nightcap, racing in from the bullpen to quell Vancouver's rally in the seventh inning, when they scored all their runs.
Bud Guldborg took the loss.

WENATCHEE, Aug. 3—A group of Indians dancers that were to make good medicine and ward away the evil spirits that are keeping Wenatchee Chiefs in the cellar—and put a hex on Salem—must have had their feathers crossed as the Senators defeated the Chiefs Saturday night, 7-3.
The win pulled Salem even at one-all in the four-game series.
Bob Collins allowed only four hits, including a two-run homer by Walt Pocekay in the fourth.
Salem opened with two runs in the first frame on a double by Gene Tanselli a walk and another double by Bill White. After picking up solo tallies in the fifth and sixth, the Senators added three more in the seventh on White's triple, Collins' double, a walk and two singles.
White was the big gun in the Salem attack with two doubles and a triple.

YAKIMA, Aug. 2—The Tri-City Braves outlasted the Yakima Bears Saturday night to take a 10-9 slugfest and post their-second straight win of the four-game Western International League series.
Four pitchers were used by each club, with Dave Brittain receiving credit for the win and Kenny Wright the loss. Both were starters.
Tri-City stepped off to an eight run lead with seven in the first inning and one in the third. Yakima came back with solo runs in the fourth, and iifth and crashed through for seven of its own in the sixth. The Braves got single runs in the fifth and sixth.
Four runs were scored off Wright in the opening frame before he was derricked for Bob Garrett with nobody out. Wright gave up three more than Chuck Donley, 18-year-old rookie put out the fire.
Tri-City's seven-run opening barrage came on two opening singles, four walks, a fielder's choice, Brittain's two run single and Ray Hamrick's single that drove in another tally. Don Lopes homered for the Braves with the sacks empty in the fifth and what proved to be the winning run came home in the sixth on Des Charouhas' single, a two-base error and an outfield fly.
In Yakima's big seven-run sixth, Ken Richardson pounded out his second consecutive double, Brittain gave up three straight walks, and Chuck Malmberg singled home two more. Relifer Ad Satalich walked in two more runs and John Albini singled home another. That ended the scoring.
